Punctuated of course with things we just plain love, covet, or if you will..."Olive Juice".

Back in October, she was featured in <a href="http://www.dailycandy.com/chicago/article/90402/Redecorate-Your-Home-with-Help-from-a-Chicago-Designer">Daily Candy Chicago</a> and now she’s chatting about her business in this month’s issue of CS Interiors (article below).<br /><br />She’s a wicked talented designer and I definitely recommend you enlist her services if your home needs a little pick-me-up. Ready to blow your New Years resolution to eat healthy already? I mean, it’s been three whole days, right?!?<br /><br />I came across this brownie recipe in a holiday magazine and had been dying to make it all season. I finally gave in to temptation over the weekend and made up a batch for the girls at work. I made a few (needed) modifications and they came out great. These little babies are riiiiich, so feel free to cut them smaller than you would a normal brownie. I’m calling them Kitchen Sink Brownies because well, they literally have a little bit of everything but the kitchen sink.<br /><br />Kitchen Sink Brownies<br /><br />1 c quick-cooking rolled oats<br />½ c all-purpose flour<br />½ c brown sugar<br />¼ t baking soda<br />1 egg, lightly beaten<br />¾ c sugar<br />2/3 c flour<br />¼ c milk<br />¼ c butter<br />1 oz unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled<br />1 t vanilla<br />¼ t baking powder<br />½ c chopped walnuts<br />1 oz unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped<br />2 T butter<br />1 ½ c powdered sugar<br />½ t vanilla<br />2 T hot water<br />2 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped<br /><br />Preheat oven to 350 degrees. For bottom layer, in a small bowl stir together oats, ½ c flour, brown sugar and baking soda, Add ½ c melted butter. Press evenly into bottom if an ungreased 11 x 7 baking pan. Bake for 10 mins.<br /><br />While the first layer bakes, begin combining ingredients for the middle layer in a medium bowl. Stir together egg, sugar, flour, milk , 1/4c melted butter, melted chocolate, vanilla and baking powder. Fold in walnuts and let cool. Spread evenly over bottom layer. Bake approx 25 mins or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Place on wire rack to cool.<br /><br />For the top layer, in a medium saucepan combine the 1 oz chopped chocolate, and the last 2 T of butter. Cook and stir over low heat until melted. Stir in powdered sugar and add remaining vanilla. Add enough hot water to make mixture a spreading consistency. Spread chocolate mixture over middle layer. Sprinkle with the 2 oz of bittersweet chocolate(I’m also thinking that peanut butter or butterscotch chips could be fun variations). Cool completely. Cut into bars. Makes 16-24 brownies.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisx5SmjeZcd91AOAn8CM0xel7DOSvEoQux7cGke60uX5ClhKRgc5feeBi-VXkn7GLbjKAemftp8INfZRxFA4WgMv7LoW6jiCDbtPmBabpp7E4wzsLGGjIKi55dBunuJOEJ1rOQc0ppgzGd/s1600/brownies.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 173px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558161071151076786" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisx5SmjeZcd91AOAn8CM0xel7DOSvEoQux7cGke60uX5ClhKRgc5feeBi-VXkn7GLbjKAemftp8INfZRxFA4WgMv7LoW6jiCDbtPmBabpp7E4wzsLGGjIKi55dBunuJOEJ1rOQc0ppgzGd/s400/brownies.jpg" /> <p align="center"></a><span style="font-size:78%;">{snapshots of brownies}</span></p>Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16930884184332172165noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326260841094213546.post-71544425338665531352010-12-20T16:58:00.003-06:002010-12-26T11:45:10.695-06:00Non-Traditional Christmas WreathsHappy holidays, everyone! I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas with loved ones...and that Santa treated you well!<br /><br />I had such a great response to the <a href="http://theolivejuiceblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/non-traditional-christmas-trees.html">Non-traditional Christmas Tree(s</a>) post that I did a search for non-traditional Christmas wreaths and found some really creative ideas. But then got too crazy with the holiday rush and never got around to posting it. My deepest apologies. Check out some fun “wreath” ideas below for next year! Maybe you can even stock up on supplies at this years after Christmas sales. ;)<br /><br />PS: One of my MANY New Year’s resolutions is to be better about updating this blog. I love writing it but I always fall short on time. So please feel free to keep me on task in 2011!<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL-Zjg_FZEYUKHikxaamId5rZ0i9DOoBWzdp_h1A_ILKYZRuBRzDDDWARAxjjdDF3Jtub1nRPLkZ3LQiicd4yIAQfHsb1pt79PNRYee1y2v7mVCkbAxO5zPKBADjuTwPOvaGxWpBmu3s03/s1600/mla103942_1208_wreathdoily_xl.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5552902962694764434" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL-Zjg_FZEYUKHikxaamId5rZ0i9DOoBWzdp_h1A_ILKYZRuBRzDDDWARAxjjdDF3Jtub1nRPLkZ3LQiicd4yIAQfHsb1pt79PNRYee1y2v7mVCkbAxO5zPKBADjuTwPOvaGxWpBmu3s03/s400/mla103942_1208_wreathdoily_xl.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIdvh8uw_8h3iGjmKj-RtBQAXCmu20Oh8CUuDuI4wzGZj7fDhVW8m4vs0vn3oYU3ImTOEMIl_NqlTJBxfvibWn0SODrA8BrRJc5anM8NXHkBXAgj3H25-SO_4gbb_Uyo9jwEagOOzNmba6/s1600/flora.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5552902958272502770" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIdvh8uw_8h3iGjmKj-RtBQAXCmu20Oh8CUuDuI4wzGZj7fDhVW8m4vs0vn3oYU3ImTOEMIl_NqlTJBxfvibWn0SODrA8BrRJc5anM8NXHkBXAgj3H25-SO_4gbb_Uyo9jwEagOOzNmba6/s400/flora.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYYCtzP9Gb6ObDLDFM-QfY9Pbu8qcktyg9uMptElo3tiKELsaTJxpJDI8BbkHd8CTNWYaHsHwUi2gkuLqf17fDM4c4LNG3gnbiFgaGP_L1qIxE1PAUU33IHb8_-c-JTd0_jwIsCxR2sOw8/s1600/draft_lens8415451module72732801photo_1260042002squidoo_redneck_christmas.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 316px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 297px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5552902950121022114" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYYCtzP9Gb6ObDLDFM-QfY9Pbu8qcktyg9uMptElo3tiKELsaTJxpJDI8BbkHd8CTNWYaHsHwUi2gkuLqf17fDM4c4LNG3gnbiFgaGP_L1qIxE1PAUU33IHb8_-c-JTd0_jwIsCxR2sOw8/s400/draft_lens8415451module72732801photo_1260042002squidoo_redneck_christmas.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3lDLDG9OyaTSTPdYNeTAm6Iu3ein1hxJM_8BSbV4-GE76mZoVuHow8-K_JbvMV1mqnkuKRm-bRZW-FQFwyRnFu2sb7aVhLPZGUCug5DYk0HAe6EFnULHXuPG8G2N1we8rNBOZNVhwF_-s/s1600/5198194940_859b997b06_z.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 348px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5552902944701716962" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3lDLDG9OyaTSTPdYNeTAm6Iu3ein1hxJM_8BSbV4-GE76mZoVuHow8-K_JbvMV1mqnkuKRm-bRZW-FQFwyRnFu2sb7aVhLPZGUCug5DYk0HAe6EFnULHXuPG8G2N1we8rNBOZNVhwF_-s/s400/5198194940_859b997b06_z.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwLvJbJPmSG48sh_oL8SBUFkyndvKrt4ThvQt8LQiO7eua8UHGVxbxOhvbcbVErQ4dG2B_QMiZsTloBIOMR2Oy2ddNSU4uZ9Usz5bloiSYkyo9ZruO_eg0YB9cMjz5sIlJcmVwqgXdKwci/s1600/christmas-wreath-6-l.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5552902944601272578" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwLvJbJPmSG48sh_oL8SBUFkyndvKrt4ThvQt8LQiO7eua8UHGVxbxOhvbcbVErQ4dG2B_QMiZsTloBIOMR2Oy2ddNSU4uZ9Usz5bloiSYkyo9ZruO_eg0YB9cMjz5sIlJcmVwqgXdKwci/s400/christmas-wreath-6-l.jpg" /></a><br /><span style="font-size:78%;">{images from around the web}<br /><br /></span><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div>Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16930884184332172165noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326260841094213546.post-27796931902130249062010-12-09T10:10:00.006-06:002010-12-13T13:04:19.238-06:00Non-traditional Christmas Tree(s)<div align="left">I have a non-traditional Christmas tree this year. I mean, I have a REAL tree too of course to fulfill the child in me’s favorite holiday activity of lying by the tree and watching Christmas movies for hours on end. Bonus if there are Christmas cookies involved. But for the fun tree, the one that you see first thing when you walk in my front door, I wanted to do something a little different. I arranged a bunch of branches in a tall clear vase filled with Christmas lights. I left the lights sort of messily wrapped around the end of the branches to add interest. I was forced to use smaller ornaments so that the branches didn’t break, and went with a mix of greens, turquoises and blues which really pop against the dark branches. It sits on my mirrored chest that reflects the light glow into the living room.<br /><br /><br /></div><div align="left"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG2Gbozcp5na35PLQ-rU681ThyphenhyphenL_yJH5j2quMXCu_ZA217bau7HPvfs7wtH5ucxecVuiXJ1uetCx_lbM0qyA93qYhd2SefhI0cvXgGMhmhewgrGtHYmRSymkD-Vm1AZLCxXdZRijXmQk10/s1600/P1030906.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5548715811961122642" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG2Gbozcp5na35PLQ-rU681ThyphenhyphenL_yJH5j2quMXCu_ZA217bau7HPvfs7wtH5ucxecVuiXJ1uetCx_lbM0qyA93qYhd2SefhI0cvXgGMhmhewgrGtHYmRSymkD-Vm1AZLCxXdZRijXmQk10/s400/P1030906.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjzoot7ZCyBNQWcO9YSUJvNlU-i4cg-fbi_mnv9QcxywLHslP7LVpGFOTpJ2uQPi3W-7y-xNTgiUXX7tW_W-Da0Zwr0nFnELa8AtNbL4IEWLYnh8_FUGohwpPMG_0SeoIaQtIhI2vWoIOY/s1600/P1030905.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5548715805394500258" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjzoot7ZCyBNQWcO9YSUJvNlU-i4cg-fbi_mnv9QcxywLHslP7LVpGFOTpJ2uQPi3W-7y-xNTgiUXX7tW_W-Da0Zwr0nFnELa8AtNbL4IEWLYnh8_FUGohwpPMG_0SeoIaQtIhI2vWoIOY/s400/P1030905.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigMqvOZk4MCvWrEl-LawhPneM5VGHg4YcvWXhJ-kMY5Ruks_SVJJ0olXRBjGDy05OcS3zzhzdm6R6NlLju1bPFFGLRweneKNGY3ucBVoPZiukaS4vsp47O6R9TbfJ_QYPjEFTrkAZKcVPa/s1600/P1030904.JPG"></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipRFPLbdc4zBo4MMf7wYo9DeKhJOJBkE-mE0T1HZry_A2MQkTeA5PjV1Up2Gx8DVlY3Ube8-7uv3cbVGeenNfmUupiBUY_nAMkTVGqlBx0bY_Zh2ljaMuy4W7mbaUFa7UJV7lgfnOD-qA7/s1600/P1030903.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5548715793856024258" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipRFPLbdc4zBo4MMf7wYo9DeKhJOJBkE-mE0T1HZry_A2MQkTeA5PjV1Up2Gx8DVlY3Ube8-7uv3cbVGeenNfmUupiBUY_nAMkTVGqlBx0bY_Zh2ljaMuy4W7mbaUFa7UJV7lgfnOD-qA7/s400/P1030903.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />I did a quick search for other non-traditional (and wildly creative) trees. Which is terrible as its Christmas, my absolute FAVORITE time of year and everywhere I look should fuel creativity in me. So I’ll lean on the creativity of other designers tonight.<br /><br />I caught part of HGTV’s Celebrity Holiday Homes special the other night. Though the celebs were sort of ho-hum, (why won’t the decorate Jennifer Aniston’s house or something?!?!) the designers had some sort of cute ideas. The special runs periodically throughout December so check your listings.<br /><br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA52mwjeQUi1wGP_WoPpu-U70BQRFzZ3HWef6vshzZ7bpgp8MHG0cqAN6xhmqYM5Myo58_h3qAMSVfKYC8wPlIVbKbA1xuABBTh6XoKfSeeDB3oCsBUIuLe3h0kn9C-x6_O7yb3eAvF1JA/s1600/burke.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5548143059857776034" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA52mwjeQUi1wGP_WoPpu-U70BQRFzZ3HWef6vshzZ7bpgp8MHG0cqAN6xhmqYM5Myo58_h3qAMSVfKYC8wPlIVbKbA1xuABBTh6XoKfSeeDB3oCsBUIuLe3h0kn9C-x6_O7yb3eAvF1JA/s400/burke.jpg" /> <p align="center"></a><span style="font-size:85%;">{Brooke Burke and David Charvet's White and Silver Christmas}</span><br /></p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbnQjx8JO_qLAF9SKbtmtrEEZzYtHfI3ZuHCf_n_b8yRPtT8-OS5Rtbn2H3uxohLrFw-HfpJIj9FZRUWY0iFXyX9A9lcYHK6wvAEJtR3NIsXqnvW7nnFExqeEa9GyXv8Ch0-CTaOpC67Ps/s1600/sherry.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5548143053661348578" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbnQjx8JO_qLAF9SKbtmtrEEZzYtHfI3ZuHCf_n_b8yRPtT8-OS5Rtbn2H3uxohLrFw-HfpJIj9FZRUWY0iFXyX9A9lcYHK6wvAEJtR3NIsXqnvW7nnFExqeEa9GyXv8Ch0-CTaOpC67Ps/s400/sherry.jpg" /> <p align="center"></a><span style="font-size:85%;">{Sherri Shepherd's Gold and Champagne Holiday Motif}</span> </p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjKuppiZF7C5yUykGRGtThm4U5-tCNl6jSwUC6ki-dBPPNq0I-1T_B3LhbJyFMgPo6IHZEUCNGh61WBkPqRGprUGYtYO8XBeHKsAvQG3-j-n-nJUCWrg4rY46X_0GI8kkh_iQ8yz5ARkVP/s1600/yearwood.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5548143051324773794" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjKuppiZF7C5yUykGRGtThm4U5-tCNl6jSwUC6ki-dBPPNq0I-1T_B3LhbJyFMgPo6IHZEUCNGh61WBkPqRGprUGYtYO8XBeHKsAvQG3-j-n-nJUCWrg4rY46X_0GI8kkh_iQ8yz5ARkVP/s400/yearwood.jpg" /> <p align="center"></a><span style="font-size:85%;">{Trisha Yearwood's Simple Southern Christmas}</span> </p><p align="center"><br />*All images from the HGTV website* </p>Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16930884184332172165noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326260841094213546.post-40478411625987899152010-11-07T09:10:00.008-06:002010-11-07T20:59:54.169-06:00Apron ChicI love daylight savings. With my extra hour this morning I am lounging in bed with a steaming cup of coffee and watching an old episode of <a href="http://theolivejuiceblog.blogspot.com/2010/06/fabulous-farrah-diy-t-shirt-project.html">Charlie’s Angels</a>. Kelly Garrett just sauntered out in an adorable 70’s chic apron and in made me think about all of the retro-inspired aprons that I have been seeing at <a href="http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/index.jsp?cm_guid=1-_-100000000000000003835-_-444906593&cm_mmc=Google-_-Brand_Misspells-_-anthropology-_-Broad+Ad_444906593">Anthropologie</a> lately. I did a quick <a href="http://www.etsy.com/">Etsy</a> and internet search and cute, feminine aprons are EVERYWHERE. How much more fun would holiday baking be in one of the lovely styles below? I might have to bust out the sewing machine and get to work on one of my own for the Christmas cookie season.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnydB8duJUE4cFgXSoUVKG0ME1X8FmqcPLXDX4xO5HqQTEpUlM2FgR6ap0OkDU5kBAhWSd_3KeJP-YkfXYzfOwSGFGD_HTVRvvoi0W6jum4RIDksu9KtsA7qfxrWHz9W_I_US-sd4LlE6B/s1600/untitled.bmp"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 375px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnydB8duJUE4cFgXSoUVKG0ME1X8FmqcPLXDX4xO5HqQTEpUlM2FgR6ap0OkDU5kBAhWSd_3KeJP-YkfXYzfOwSGFGD_HTVRvvoi0W6jum4RIDksu9KtsA7qfxrWHz9W_I_US-sd4LlE6B/s400/untitled.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5536825891147040290" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2sn8E1pvX-GtjPLDjtz3bcY0x8YXQmI9jW388LOT7kXOJwcBcdCdD2KK6ZzQOlMt4OCOPCqQkmfqwldLo7TN3zDXap6ruX8M99YkDtRQHRAxF8klDcWzUw92KdX3cyotrVCGh9weRo5gA/s1600/il_570xN_187633648.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2sn8E1pvX-GtjPLDjtz3bcY0x8YXQmI9jW388LOT7kXOJwcBcdCdD2KK6ZzQOlMt4OCOPCqQkmfqwldLo7TN3zDXap6ruX8M99YkDtRQHRAxF8klDcWzUw92KdX3cyotrVCGh9weRo5gA/s400/il_570xN_187633648.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5536825739277074866" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHeD3k3irncWY9XfaVd1SsWwIrcMSfaF6XpnBlxTuUbWkXh-Y0hwwECU3fcEQ60KiNini1PbfjFjAHf77YYKXiPobWedG88c0LQvZ45zU5vuEgsY59gsex9Jx3lJaf5CZ6-5J7QDZmlyxV/s1600/1"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 268px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHeD3k3irncWY9XfaVd1SsWwIrcMSfaF6XpnBlxTuUbWkXh-Y0hwwECU3fcEQ60KiNini1PbfjFjAHf77YYKXiPobWedG88c0LQvZ45zU5vuEgsY59gsex9Jx3lJaf5CZ6-5J7QDZmlyxV/s400/1" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5536825714849169362" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZlUmMIgkILMkCheA-_e00o9XYdVlGYs_iiC44dIxiRdqav2hr9437xDl4ket_RPgJ2Y4qsWKjhnkZZkAyrBs2djdrKruym-5b_37JjCUrEglmx6HTPY1P2M1T-lwz91r4068qGajxGzex/s1600/il_570xN_189801922.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 226px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZlUmMIgkILMkCheA-_e00o9XYdVlGYs_iiC44dIxiRdqav2hr9437xDl4ket_RPgJ2Y4qsWKjhnkZZkAyrBs2djdrKruym-5b_37JjCUrEglmx6HTPY1P2M1T-lwz91r4068qGajxGzex/s400/il_570xN_189801922.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5536825728343647090" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQYtPK3nkBz3O051Q3h9GAIN2x_gisXnfoiFpvyxV4amdfBtXLXw8POw2coy7s6MqNIL8L93-v-P514u3uf8nXBRL1U6U8S5MOPbvtE__x2j-auL6MsqBhVtEVvAu8gLm_WDYaHjCk-XHJ/s1600/dd.bmp"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 350px; height: 212px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQYtPK3nkBz3O051Q3h9GAIN2x_gisXnfoiFpvyxV4amdfBtXLXw8POw2coy7s6MqNIL8L93-v-P514u3uf8nXBRL1U6U8S5MOPbvtE__x2j-auL6MsqBhVtEVvAu8gLm_WDYaHjCk-XHJ/s400/dd.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5536825723434619378" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9NkqGdlS3hjN2OfPil_8SHCTPArWYzjvMLmg84hu9caQY9TQEtbolyfRkbyCgMTo9fB4692c6XhsqLCxo9AhKamt10_iVpV2ZfRE7k58Tv3UhqqRXLeueVo1Co4eUmArKoCfoIOH8Sygd/s1600/sassy2.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 333px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9NkqGdlS3hjN2OfPil_8SHCTPArWYzjvMLmg84hu9caQY9TQEtbolyfRkbyCgMTo9fB4692c6XhsqLCxo9AhKamt10_iVpV2ZfRE7k58Tv3UhqqRXLeueVo1Co4eUmArKoCfoIOH8Sygd/s400/sassy2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5536825890600762322" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsekT7_LrDalA_cgclwbDypdvaQumARoyK3KaM2z1pD3bERUplE6SInR1Jp6NDiC1V1iDeXwLhrWfFXOV9O34RAeJ581By2VZuiSj0sOfYx92KEXjkb6gjVuA7-OZUr3Q7B7DLoNfmzpqs/s1600/883111_mul_b.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 268px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsekT7_LrDalA_cgclwbDypdvaQumARoyK3KaM2z1pD3bERUplE6SInR1Jp6NDiC1V1iDeXwLhrWfFXOV9O34RAeJ581By2VZuiSj0sOfYx92KEXjkb6gjVuA7-OZUr3Q7B7DLoNfmzpqs/s400/883111_mul_b.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5536825715002742178" /></a>Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16930884184332172165noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326260841094213546.post-44947181390325040702010-11-02T12:13:00.005-05:002010-11-07T21:00:59.146-06:00Buffalo Mac n CheeseI have accidently created greatness. Since it’s FINALLY feeling like fall around here, the crisp, chilly weather has me craving comfort foods. Now a girl’s got to be careful with comfort foods as they tend not to be a friend of the waistline. Creams, cheeses and butter seem to be constant players in the soups, stews and casseroles that I’m yearning for. I’m always looking for a lower fat alternative that still tastes NEARLY as good as the real thing.<br /><br />I found a lighter mac n cheese recipe online and while doctoring it up with some alternate ingredients, my own creativity literally got away from me. I decided that it needed a little heat so instead of simple hot sauce; I opted for some red pepper flakes and a few dashes of buffalo sauce. Well that buffalo sauce comes out faaaast, so before I knew it, I had a quite different dish on my hands. I went with it. I added in some sweet tomatoes to cut the heat. If I had had some crumbled blue cheese, I would have added that as well for a little rich kick at the end. My Buffalo Mac was great on its own, but could be even better served with some chicken for added protein…maybe marinated in the buffalo sauce and sliced on top? This comfort food will certainly be in the dinner rotation at my house this fall/winter!<br /><br /><strong>Buffalo Mac n Cheese</strong><br /><br />12 oz uncooked elbow macaroni <br />2 cup(s) fat-free skim milk <br />¼ cup flour <br />¾ tsp table salt <br />¼ tsp onion powder <br />crushed red pepper flakes to taste <br /> 1 cup low-fat shredded sharp cheddar cheese<br />¼ cup low fat blue cheese crumbles (optional)<br /> 1 tbsp buffalo sauce (I prefer Frank’s), or more to taste<br />cherry tomatoes<br /> <br />Cook pasta in lightly salted boiling water according to package directions; drain and return to pot.<br /><br />Meanwhile, in a large saucepan, whisk together milk, flour, salt and onion powder and red pepper flakes until blended. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat whisking frequently; reduce heat to low and simmer stirring often until thickened (about 2 minutes). Remove pan from heat and whisk in cheese and buffalo sauce. Add sauce and tomatoes to pasta; toss to mix and coat. <br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGRPiNMpDg1K70fGAyM1TwZ_VWmK21hPzXvnLwno6tIpzgJxk5TjiUhkEJ9q8FxTxd7Y5ASqYIO_yiylMTu_8ZY2u_oDVc6vzAU5nyfyuPikxP6tnv9lPN1otpIx6Mnh92n3OzoF20UFzF/s1600/P1030735.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGRPiNMpDg1K70fGAyM1TwZ_VWmK21hPzXvnLwno6tIpzgJxk5TjiUhkEJ9q8FxTxd7Y5ASqYIO_yiylMTu_8ZY2u_oDVc6vzAU5nyfyuPikxP6tnv9lPN1otpIx6Mnh92n3OzoF20UFzF/s400/P1030735.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5535015124743315730" /></a>Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16930884184332172165noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326260841094213546.post-11802251692072311142010-10-10T11:10:00.004-05:002010-10-10T11:19:43.097-05:00Pumpkins!One of my favorite parts of Halloween is decorating with pumpkins and gourds. This year, I am using all white pumpkins on my table for a very clean, monochromatic look. We have all seen (and done) the classic jack-o-lantern carving with the triangle eyes and sparse teeth. If you feel like changing it up a little this year, check out some creative pumpkin decorating ideas below from around the internet. So cleaver!<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAyRZdqAmiLolaWVibgiQXOngQ_wZ_Uqf4FlH6SXLYeU476R1XzY5QYxZmFx7pKfBOE0SIi0-nMNkcvmCyNQHcTsqjqj6zT2G3ZVNuPHs_1iTPckvJ_DwaZ3Vm9esrUquDHUp6LTCYhXws/s1600/Pumpkins.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5526451109868878114" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAyRZdqAmiLolaWVibgiQXOngQ_wZ_Uqf4FlH6SXLYeU476R1XzY5QYxZmFx7pKfBOE0SIi0-nMNkcvmCyNQHcTsqjqj6zT2G3ZVNuPHs_1iTPckvJ_DwaZ3Vm9esrUquDHUp6LTCYhXws/s400/Pumpkins.jpg" /></a>Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16930884184332172165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326260841094213546.post-11619023383605697692010-10-07T10:38:00.005-05:002010-10-07T10:53:56.726-05:00Readin' PrettyI’m sure that you’ve seen these all over the design blogs:<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixh2uj9MsJZqE57xmHYEWR7ogDfYnkUEvnGUPkfCz2QIztjiRY9xSi6M5iMQdWD5HUtr70SNLYgERLuqYxCnceZQdfWoi4DMDIkOMKqhQCNW7JNwwDjIYwFdjzKaxb19mgcXjcgFKA3W_R/s1600/1.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 388px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525329314002352450" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixh2uj9MsJZqE57xmHYEWR7ogDfYnkUEvnGUPkfCz2QIztjiRY9xSi6M5iMQdWD5HUtr70SNLYgERLuqYxCnceZQdfWoi4DMDIkOMKqhQCNW7JNwwDjIYwFdjzKaxb19mgcXjcgFKA3W_R/s400/1.jpg" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW8sH015P8VNnVd5zUfyE8J7pNX5_2vitNnrR203g0GMOtdnlBlNdJMPlRvdV2Ypf5d5Eyhtcg_0vu8LAjLmqh_04xAKFGEij2oi-0DXAJDX62Yt1hfGhdwX3HtkBSHYVPIYQU_yFkyqda/s1600/2.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 299px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525329310894778306" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW8sH015P8VNnVd5zUfyE8J7pNX5_2vitNnrR203g0GMOtdnlBlNdJMPlRvdV2Ypf5d5Eyhtcg_0vu8LAjLmqh_04xAKFGEij2oi-0DXAJDX62Yt1hfGhdwX3HtkBSHYVPIYQU_yFkyqda/s400/2.jpg" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimec1egRnifRlzbNDW_yxvJXXIzUUat1Z-gTgV00QfZQ0VdU1k4Q-VfJXu9n2Kf8dLAM-VWJVNs35b7yVoS5szmd61w-tBYb979hmbugner1QyhOt_lel7ca60efEv6AAZTs71A_r6_7bV/s1600/5.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 396px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525329304599475234" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimec1egRnifRlzbNDW_yxvJXXIzUUat1Z-gTgV00QfZQ0VdU1k4Q-VfJXu9n2Kf8dLAM-VWJVNs35b7yVoS5szmd61w-tBYb979hmbugner1QyhOt_lel7ca60efEv6AAZTs71A_r6_7bV/s400/5.jpg" /></a><br /><br />They are <a href="http://us.penguingroup.com/static/pages/classics/hardcoverclassics/index.html">Penguin’s Clothbound Classics</a> series featuring the designs of Coralie Bickford-Smith. Basically they have taken a collection of wonderful classic books and suped them up with bold colors and fun cover art. Each cover features a pattern design significant to the story (Alice in Wonderland sports flamingos, Oliver Twist’s are clocks). Each design is stamped onto linen with beautiful matte foil.<br /><br />Originally only available in the UK, they have sloooooowly been released in the US over the last year. You can purchase them on amazon.com or in some Anthroplogie stores. My mom ordered a bunch of them for my birthday back in June. And then low and behold, another three showed up on my doorstep this week. Five new designs were recently released.<br /><br />I can’t decide if I actually want to read them and risk creasing the pretty little spines or not. For now I am using them as art. They live on top of my armoire with a vintage suitcase that I picked up at a junk market last winter and my stainless steel curly-cue initials from Ballard and Design circa 1999.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjncFyWLqlEpPr2yufPvRFWQo-A4eOl1XoKnxSuGUusRlDa3OhUY0jOoPVmpGr7Kq3-1plOIL-KRkLzJ_CQImmfCjBKM75xGWin9IKBv5n_bCqTvH5XXO-KTd048lPr7suXPcTygiZWVd1M/s1600/222.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525330614130584194" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjncFyWLqlEpPr2yufPvRFWQo-A4eOl1XoKnxSuGUusRlDa3OhUY0jOoPVmpGr7Kq3-1plOIL-KRkLzJ_CQImmfCjBKM75xGWin9IKBv5n_bCqTvH5XXO-KTd048lPr7suXPcTygiZWVd1M/s400/222.jpg" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWqV6ixN72UOxA2shQTuAyH6XUM0S7jN5qfWyytLk10UsteKyBC1zgevl3ko1cQ22vqgjx9IBbGu_rT7t-ZuimfWksKNapjnIcpHVChUIRdh195vv02wql7KzsXzyqDOlcJ5zV6KBZKOZv/s1600/333.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525330602972028210" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWqV6ixN72UOxA2shQTuAyH6XUM0S7jN5qfWyytLk10UsteKyBC1zgevl3ko1cQ22vqgjx9IBbGu_rT7t-ZuimfWksKNapjnIcpHVChUIRdh195vv02wql7KzsXzyqDOlcJ5zV6KBZKOZv/s400/333.jpg" /></a><br /><p align="center"><span style="font-size:78%;">{book images from </span><a href="http://www.designspongeonline.com/2009/08/weekly-wrap-up-new-penguin-clothbound-classics.html"><span style="font-size:78%;">here</span></a><span style="font-size:78%;">}</span></p><p> </p>Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16930884184332172165noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326260841094213546.post-64664937562160524732010-10-01T17:16:00.007-05:002010-10-01T17:27:07.222-05:00Orange and GreyThere is an episode of Seinfeld in which George Costanza states, “I would drape myself in velvet if it were socially acceptable." Well, if it were socially acceptable (and wouldn’t kill me), I would drench myself in charcoal grey paint and saunter around town. I love the color grey. It can be warm and rich or cool and dark. It pairs with everything and is a much more dramatic neutral than say, beige. Blah.<br /><br />One of my favorite colors to mix with grey is orange. Any shade really. A deep pumpkin shade can create a cozy room. A soft sherbet shade can create fresh, vibrant space. I thought being that’s its now October and orange is pretty much the star of this month, today would be a good day to take a look at how well orange and grey compliment one another in these spaces.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieQ5qCaLgO74yITmdoCouMFz0meVM68VQRnZW8SStkhyphenhyphenRrmcSC-kQjZ3BlAGlErOnspSfOSmuaTEGLUF6MkwppxmEYgBAvRIe52uOdVs4Oiybvt8yrMkaEFq_pwyEq-lfjaelvIZGO6xQK/s1600/grey-bedroom-with-orange.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5523205987294783266" style="DISPLAY: block; We busted out the fall sweaters and made the trek down south to an apple orchard. We enjoyed a hearty country breakfast, sampled all of the apple varieties, made our way through the fall/Halloween décor at the General Store and even saw a camel. That’s right, Minnesota apple orchards have camel rides. Totally normal. It was a lovely morning and we left armed with more apples than any one family needs. Ever. (Expect to see some apple recipes coming up!)<br /><br />On the way home we spotted this:<br /><br /><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNoSijexGWBdNhrnRh8bKXWxesnsR6KNL847IWhBmMTwypiARwexX4CTULiaJkWsXAcqbm8tTdWdcW9pEOP1mYGPCTJUIYyRxZFnJxnhdvbCK4V-2FT_F2uHJA4CHXfxBTEzmjD06pEEiD/s1600/Y.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 294px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5521442133042373042" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNoSijexGWBdNhrnRh8bKXWxesnsR6KNL847IWhBmMTwypiARwexX4CTULiaJkWsXAcqbm8tTdWdcW9pEOP1mYGPCTJUIYyRxZFnJxnhdvbCK4V-2FT_F2uHJA4CHXfxBTEzmjD06pEEiD/s400/Y.jpg" /></a><span style="font-size:78%;"> {image borrowed from <a href="http://shaunayounge.blogspot.com/2010/07/minnesotas-largest-candy-store.html">here</a>}</span></p><span style="font-size:78%;"></span><p align="left"><br />If you know us at all, then you know that OF COURSE we stopped! It’s Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store. I don’t even know what it’s really called other than that as that’s what the huge sign off the highway said…maybe that’s its name? I just did a quick Google search for it and nothing really came up. It’s off of hwy 169 about halfway between Jordan and Belle Plaine, MN. Or maybe it exists only in my dreams? </p><p><br />As you enter, you are greeted by a giant indicator light letting you know whether or not fresh pies are baking (they were). Inside is a haven of pies, strudels, nut rolls, jams, cookies, cookie cutters, apples (who even needs to go to the orchard), salsas, hundreds of kinds of root beer and other pop in real glass bottle etc, etc, etc, etc. Oh yes, and CANDY. Serious candy. Hard candy, gummy candy, gross candy, vintage candy, new candy, candy that you probably couldn’t even dream up. Chocolate that guarantees no weight gain? Yep, they have that. Candy cigarettes? Yep, multiple varieties actually. Bacon flavored bubble gum? Gross, but yep. Bubble gum flavored Mike and Ikes? Yep. Also gross sounding but indeed a real thing. </p><p><br />I now have a kitchen full of apples and candy and a serious test of willpower ahead! Long distance phone calls?...yup, we do it every day. Long distance interior design services? …from your computer? Ummm what?<br /><br />My dear friend, Rebecca and I met in design school in Chicago years ago. She was telling me recently about her firm’s newest venture of interactive online design called <a href="http://www.pushpinrevolution.com/">Pushpin Revolution </a>and I knew that I had to spread the word.<br /><br />Rebecca, Steve Johnson and Sarah Soler are wicked talented designers with over 20 years of design experience (check out some images of their work below). After years of working together at a hospitality design firm, they started up their own gig, <a href="http://www.johnsonsoler.com/#604355/Main">Johnson/Soler</a>, last spring. Their simple philosophy that design should be less complicated, more personal and more affordable is just what we need in this crazy long distance relationship having, phone call making world. Pushpin Revolution is their latest endeavor to bring good design to the masses in the most convenient way. I asked Rebecca to share a few words about how it works:<br /><br /><em>We think that great interiors should be available to everyone. At Pushpin Revolution, this is as simple as a click to get you on your way to the space you love.<br /><br />Whether you need help picking paint colors, arranging furniture or getting the details pulled together. We offer straightforward solutions and advice to help you shape your space.<br /><br />At Pushpin Revolution, we use the internet to complete this process. First, you give us some basic information about your space, your budget and your likes and dislikes. Then we use our years of professional design experience to get to work creating a design solution especially for you. Quickly and affordably. Like it should be. </em><br /><em><br />We have a range of design options tailored to meet your needs. Our ‘Style Guide’ helps narrow down the choices and provide some specific direction for your individual style, and colors and materials that work for you.<br /><br />Our ‘Room Remix’ provides a more comprehensive design package. Complete with a detailed room layout, custom color palette, furniture, lighting and accessory selections and a complete shopping list to help you get the job done quickly and efficiently, this package does it all.<br /><br />Pushpin Revolution also offers additional services if the above packages don’t seem to fit your needs. Send us a note and we will get back to you with ideas and options that work for you.<br /><br />Design really doesn’t need to be complicated. Check it out for yourself at <a href="http://www.pushpinrevolution.com/">www.pushpinrevolution.com</a> Start YOUR revolution today!</em><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdn534ushg2Hdvniq5t67m8BoRHuupLci-CPqmfHOPyM13OYQt_2Bpn78Kuggy1on1q_ELcwPTjYFsFFHY-_4eq_DXkbn0lnRCGOxUu3g5DR9HoGfdTVpE3P63LKNIxzGrm4ZkioDbT3Xr/s1600/island.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519761024775082834" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdn534ushg2Hdvniq5t67m8BoRHuupLci-CPqmfHOPyM13OYQt_2Bpn78Kuggy1on1q_ELcwPTjYFsFFHY-_4eq_DXkbn0lnRCGOxUu3g5DR9HoGfdTVpE3P63LKNIxzGrm4ZkioDbT3Xr/s400/island.jpg" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIoXi009NGHDji0ap8XxQEt_uxYv2NeDQeWr37IqlG6QZ2ZCqglB8i5Y5bOK4p4mPOIGzSOJ5DiwS2xnVxxIvAw_S7BSQbY1nBtyxZvF3WYjDyPkWjVyRJL1cgh5NIEzAK0zpXPwjCEMXI/s1600/kitchen.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 267px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519761023181408338" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIoXi009NGHDji0ap8XxQEt_uxYv2NeDQeWr37IqlG6QZ2ZCqglB8i5Y5bOK4p4mPOIGzSOJ5DiwS2xnVxxIvAw_S7BSQbY1nBtyxZvF3WYjDyPkWjVyRJL1cgh5NIEzAK0zpXPwjCEMXI/s400/kitchen.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiq24c66NwoQPHBf23QutG__S2pU-Jx_YjICINZQY3N1izr2h6TvwRd3xjtQXOOrn7sRvg8OU7DuoT5EfIpX8JL77iIMMuJJwU8ucEeKUKLa7jyS7huvhOyjCA0q6nC1gKEk8O3bleuWzB/s1600/sofa.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 237px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519761019088416370" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiq24c66NwoQPHBf23QutG__S2pU-Jx_YjICINZQY3N1izr2h6TvwRd3xjtQXOOrn7sRvg8OU7DuoT5EfIpX8JL77iIMMuJJwU8ucEeKUKLa7jyS7huvhOyjCA0q6nC1gKEk8O3bleuWzB/s400/sofa.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdmxVCMdADHE3eloxcNj6ps5su7XZxBRbI0hlwJbsLiyDuOnK1pKm4nYh_WejdXpHfHSArWztUbI9O5_z72R5z8k-mr84o3oSkGKpHdor6i9XeZOysIoGivauSnsU36P2WQaxtqPpbA6Uc/s1600/bed.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 277px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519761007090301330" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdmxVCMdADHE3eloxcNj6ps5su7XZxBRbI0hlwJbsLiyDuOnK1pKm4nYh_WejdXpHfHSArWztUbI9O5_z72R5z8k-mr84o3oSkGKpHdor6i9XeZOysIoGivauSnsU36P2WQaxtqPpbA6Uc/s400/bed.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivueSxBRmGTD4yco_kDG29181yU3b6-PN63NulgQX_5wZKuWrikI00IUIHe3Hy9vFWgjFeln6O-wYgqRm_hmEWIydOEVXyQkey-mtRiBqoT5lF4X3h0-kfAGuHfup0d5Zcn_CaqLUS46Vv/s1600/Dining+By+Design.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519761003486806274" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivueSxBRmGTD4yco_kDG29181yU3b6-PN63NulgQX_5wZKuWrikI00IUIHe3Hy9vFWgjFeln6O-wYgqRm_hmEWIydOEVXyQkey-mtRiBqoT5lF4X3h0-kfAGuHfup0d5Zcn_CaqLUS46Vv/s400/Dining+By+Design.jpg" /></a><span style="font-size:78%;"> {all images from </span><a href="http://www.johnsonsoler.com/"><span style="font-size:78%;">www.johnsonsoler.com</span></a><span style="font-size:78%;">}</span><br /><br /><br /><br /></div></div></div>Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16930884184332172165noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326260841094213546.post-57275014560072324402010-08-20T22:04:00.004-05:002010-08-20T22:30:40.453-05:00Friday FlowersMy deepest apologies for the long absence. My favorite is their Chicken Salsa Chili. I used to crave it for months on end when I lived in Chicago knowing that I wouldn't be getting it anytime soon! While killing time the other day, I wandered over to the Café Latte <a href="http://www.cafelatte.com/index.html">website</a> and realized that they share their <a href="http://www.cafelatte.com/chicken_salsa_chili.pdf">chili recipe online</a>! So I made it.<br /><br />I cheated a little and used a rotisserie chicken. I also omitted the cilantro simply because I do not care for it. CL serves theirs with tortilla chips and tops it with cheese, onions and sour cream. I went with a big piece of crusty bread.<br /><br />Now nothing compares to the original, but it was a close, close second! :)<br /><br /></p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIEK6NqDvcxKqbkoEFaK6KYZ_C947ZZD5fd5Z0S93nE_sPs-bi97auPuq8G68PlPv6bHeN0oKFRVPfFONkSCCp-kyZpTynq0h4svPHXRqkuh5BVnwY3d9rFSgGdJ-CHk7obxk_ILxEXbvN/s1600/P1030310.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488212314487457426" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIEK6NqDvcxKqbkoEFaK6KYZ_C947ZZD5fd5Z0S93nE_sPs-bi97auPuq8G68PlPv6bHeN0oKFRVPfFONkSCCp-kyZpTynq0h4svPHXRqkuh5BVnwY3d9rFSgGdJ-CHk7obxk_ILxEXbvN/s400/P1030310.JPG" /> <p align="center"></a></p><p align="center"><span style="font-size:78%;">{my chili}</span></p>Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16930884184332172165noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326260841094213546.post-55068717406747245292010-06-14T12:04:00.009-05:002010-06-14T12:24:05.099-05:00Fabulous Farrah: a DIY t-shirt project<em><div align="left"><br />"Once upon a time there were three beautiful girls who went to the police academy, and they were each assigned very hazardous duties. But I took them away from all that and now they work for me. My name is Charlie."</em><br /><br />I love Charlie’s Angles. To be very clear, I love the 70’s Charlie’s Angles à la Aaron Spelling…NOT the crappy Cameron Diaz movie Charlie’s Angels. Disgrace.<br /><br />I love how chic and glamorous the Angles were running in heels with perfect flowing hair and always, always solving the case and catching the bad guys. And they drove such cool cars.<br /><br />My absolute favorite angel is Jill Munroe played by Farrah Fawcett. My grandpa had the real iconic 70’s red swimsuit wearing Farrah poster hanging in his basement when I was young. It seems to have vanished after he died and my grandma sold that house, but I have faith that it will resurface someday and find a new home on my wall. My dad recalls that he painted black light paint over that poster when he was younger so that she glows. Even more 70’s!!!<br /><br />I googled the poster a while back just to see how much they were going for these days (a lot for an original), but I came across many other items with the same poster image. One item in particular was an orange t-shirt with the Farrah image screen printed on the front. The seller was asking $65 and I thought, “Well hell, I can make that for next to nothing”. So I did!<br /><br />I found a pale orange v-neck t-shirt at Old Navy for $5.99. I used a leftover iron on transfer from our <a href="http://theolivejuiceblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/little-lost-love.html">Lost finale party</a>. I had purchased the transfers from Michael’s for $9.99 for a pack of 10.<br /><br />I found a high resolution image online of the poster and then reversed the image in Photoshop (you will need to reverse it so that it prints as a mirror image on the transfer). Print image from a laser printer onto the iron on transfer.<br /><br />Place transfer on shirt where you want the image to be and press iron down for 20 seconds. Move around the image pressing each section down (do not drag iron back and forth over image like you do when ironing clothes). I went around the edges a second time for an additional 5 seconds. When the transfer is cool enough to touch, slowly peel back the transfer to reveal image. Voila!<br /><br /><br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii8z-PyKSVRiNeQkx8cCD35c5RFFG4wuH3aiFBgxfIOqBe8gkTjfRn7lSW0LMWHx1nQQRtqQfhPrTMrVNfEUu65EyAviREFHoZv1nFAaItZpi4U-LrKfTMc4YBB_x_XiUhaILmS61GSu3q/s1600/snaps2.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 127px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482677206234516642" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii8z-PyKSVRiNeQkx8cCD35c5RFFG4wuH3aiFBgxfIOqBe8gkTjfRn7lSW0LMWHx1nQQRtqQfhPrTMrVNfEUu65EyAviREFHoZv1nFAaItZpi4U-LrKfTMc4YBB_x_XiUhaILmS61GSu3q/s400/snaps2.jpg" /> <p align="center"></a><span style="font-size:85%;">{snapshots of t-shirt making}</span><br /></p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEpMtjbP6jH7sIgkKs-f3_CG4MxI4ZgtxtK9yt-GZlRcU2myYIhvLa9w0TZNnpRJtfJmgJP8XNQnrdD_abIkB4dcjfSbOHdUlnK700g3PpxqVKrg7ZVidgr7906jQ3rKjdKz0R2n-novt5/s1600/lighter.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482678395701136850" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEpMtjbP6jH7sIgkKs-f3_CG4MxI4ZgtxtK9yt-GZlRcU2myYIhvLa9w0TZNnpRJtfJmgJP8XNQnrdD_abIkB4dcjfSbOHdUlnK700g3PpxqVKrg7ZVidgr7906jQ3rKjdKz0R2n-novt5/s400/lighter.jpg" /></a><br /></p><p align="center"><span style="font-size:85%;">{modeling Farrah t-shirt next to my friend's Farrah poster}</span></p>Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16930884184332172165noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326260841094213546.post-48255542124977422232010-06-08T10:22:00.007-05:002010-06-14T13:47:03.757-05:00Let's Hear It For The Boys!My friend, John, once told me that he thought my blog was “more for girls than guys”. So this post is dedicated to the boys!<br /><br />When I design for men, I go for a look that is more bold and uncluttered, and less highly decorated and full of unnecessary furnishings. I tend to gravitate towards a comfortable, sophisticated feel with clean strong lines. Dark brooding colors with rustic and earthy accessories.<br /><br />Below is a collection of some of my favorite masculine inspired interiors.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjD2dZUAhh_5d1plVD1YflmJvZw8nzw_9_yYBXQ_cNXRQT2Nu12_Nf_7K5OW8c9qE8J-coZXWPnjlSnmSy84vlF7nI6oaG_QjuVKHPXF0hAYLKv5JXJ6s1_2arCYcv2fADRWzcMIsGTZibI/s1600/robertson.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; While the movie was fairly mediocre, the fashion and new men (HELLLLLO Samantha’s new international architect find) were fun. I mean, I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE Lost. Some friends and I had a pretty spectacular Hawaiian themed Lost finale viewing party this weekend complete with Dharma beer and Mr. Cluck’s fried chicken… “Have a cluckety-cluck-cluck day!”. One of our party activities was to make tshirts using iron on transfers and puff paints. Needless to say, we became a pretty creative bunch, pretty fast!<br /><br /></div><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeGWqgGP-HLjhtJyaLxkzRCbif-XOWirCQr0ZVPLmBeECxjbaqJKuG8413OeUK2A90Rfsd2LSdbin4ZvGDsDjPpDYHBsYSO9xuGFFzJdGZDqXv3AUJUaF5207PBT98ppC7rT6ivqz3DkGs/s1600/P1030113.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476166504163480482" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeGWqgGP-HLjhtJyaLxkzRCbif-XOWirCQr0ZVPLmBeECxjbaqJKuG8413OeUK2A90Rfsd2LSdbin4ZvGDsDjPpDYHBsYSO9xuGFFzJdGZDqXv3AUJUaF5207PBT98ppC7rT6ivqz3DkGs/s400/P1030113.JPG" /></a> <span style="font-size:78%;">Geo's "Polar Beer, Maaaaaaaaaaalt Liqour" design</span></p><p align="center"><br /></p><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBxPm1AL3M4ecdV4l2dsmxuDJO88p0uanCZ1SaVYHfPm9ifUEMS5-2tdjddfXiNkt1rutSUwgUK2uC3h__UQsjZdDN-gc58ey7FGsh742ZpdPbgHrKIUHV16oKhV7u89gZvOAZSbhb6B1d/s1600/P1030108.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476166495544757346" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBxPm1AL3M4ecdV4l2dsmxuDJO88p0uanCZ1SaVYHfPm9ifUEMS5-2tdjddfXiNkt1rutSUwgUK2uC3h__UQsjZdDN-gc58ey7FGsh742ZpdPbgHrKIUHV16oKhV7u89gZvOAZSbhb6B1d/s400/P1030108.JPG" /></a><span style="font-size:78%;"> My friend, Pharon, modeling her "Mr. Eko in a Dharma Logo" design</span></p><p align="left"><br />A friend sent me a link to these spectacular gems. When I think of twenty-something apartments and homes, I certainly don’t think of Louis XVI Chairs. Ornate Louis chairs seem to scream grandmother dining rooms instead of young bachelorette pad. However, I’ve been seeing (and LOVING) revamped Louis XVI inspired chairs with funky print fabric and brightly painted frames a lot lately.<br /><br />If you are feeling crafty, you could definitely whip up one of these bad boys yourself. Try typing “French Chair” or “Louis XVI Furniture” into Craigslist or Ebay. You might be able to find an interesting piece at a local thrift store as well. Any piece with a French style wood frame will work well. All you need then is a fun fabric (no sewing required…just use a staple gun!), and some bright or metallic paint. Make sure that you prime the frame prior to painting to avoid chipping (lord only knows what may have been adhered on the frame in the past so don’t skip the primer…you want YOUR paint to stick). Nail head trim can add a little “bling” if you desire that look.<br /><br />These sassy statement pieces can punch up any living room…belonging to young and old.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpJ_llozIZIwqcjAGU5aFuZwBEf30qnthhoCmWQVxp2eDy_ljd9cJTYnCxYXORVzg0Q62cfljviPRM4dJHolbDEanLkTAzbzfk68aALOFju_1tzZ3WeIukOyLECwjN6tc7AOGJ9yCf7PtD/s1600/dscn3015-225x300.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; I respect bakers immensely. I am way too impatient for the exact timing and precise measurements that baking entails. I do however LOVE the decorating part of baking (probably the designer in me). I usually buy the break-n-bake or cake mix in a box varieties since it get me through the baking phase and into the decorating phase much quicker…and have less room for error.<br /><br />A few months ago, my bookclub read Kathryn Stockett’s <em>The Help</em> about African-American maids working in Mississippi in 1962. I worshiped this book and highly recommend (make sure you block out a day or two before starting it as you most definitely won’t be able to put it down!). The book is packed full of baked Southern delicacies. I started thinking that if these women can whip up a pie every afternoon while holding a child on their hip, polishing the silver, cleaning an entire house, and roasting whatever type of meat is going to be served for “supper”, then I can certainly make a simple cake or something.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWOSaTU5ZN8mSU0wnSYf887suoqQwTVLEEmJPC553wCnPpAuMOUWArbrgV0MzDTPEKarLFMxUrP4dMOxPrfLwco4i4dLPIbGNZE8nSx1iqQo8TyBahwFPqR4aCkaq-Cy5-ozrsrkMaDnR6/s1600/2.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 266px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467237771386280482" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWOSaTU5ZN8mSU0wnSYf887suoqQwTVLEEmJPC553wCnPpAuMOUWArbrgV0MzDTPEKarLFMxUrP4dMOxPrfLwco4i4dLPIbGNZE8nSx1iqQo8TyBahwFPqR4aCkaq-Cy5-ozrsrkMaDnR6/s400/2.jpg" /></a><br />I chose <a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/caramel-cake">Martha Stewart’s Caramel Cake</a> recipe and called off my entire afternoon. I opted to make cupcakes instead because I simply thought that they would look cuter on the cake stand. Finally, I busted out an old cookbook and found a new way that worked much better: Start with one cup of sugar in the pan and cook over burner until it becomes a golden liquid. Add 1/2c of boiling water. I started thinking about designing with the color pink and how far it’s come. It's not just for little girls’ bedrooms anymore!<br /><br /><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTpbkScp57uvahRfhpf-M6qFGmfuRz_jZCMa_mdv6T81tRFstqPxzJChKlI1QWxx1MKqbRfQ8TpejLNw7TZdBrbqlEKC7o9W0wwr7qSCX861zOhewDbfDSJ-Mx0imD1MQZMOFFt05uejSE/s1600/P1010847.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464850567167356210" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTpbkScp57uvahRfhpf-M6qFGmfuRz_jZCMa_mdv6T81tRFstqPxzJChKlI1QWxx1MKqbRfQ8TpejLNw7TZdBrbqlEKC7o9W0wwr7qSCX861zOhewDbfDSJ-Mx0imD1MQZMOFFt05uejSE/s400/P1010847.JPG" /></a> <span style="font-size:78%;">{Spring in Connecticut}<br /></span></p><p align="center"><br />For starters, there are so many shades of pink to play with. A soft, pale pink can add a little romance to a bedroom or dining room. A bold raspberry shade can make a statement in a kitchen. Many times we gravitate towards using it as a “pop” in pillows or accessories in a neutral space. I’m here to tell you that our favorite feminine hue is not just a pop color anymore. Finding new neighborhood hot spots, going to the Walker, or taking it to the extremes like my friend Rachel and doing a segway tour in our very own Mpls. Love it. I do however love being a true tourist especially in one of my favorite cities NYC. I have had the pleasure of discovering and rediscovering NYC many times every trip I always find something new to love. That's whats so great about New York. My co-blogger Liz was in the city last night, and asked for advice on things to doing while there. I always love to grab a pink berry (something Mpls is in serious need of, or my first choice JP licks, but that's totally different topic) and stroll through the city people watching, and of course shopping! No doubt I love to hit up a Barneys warehouse sale, I found the best deal on my favorite tuxedo jacket, it's a must. Some restaurants I love; the Boat Basin with its great views of the Hudson river, the Heights Bar&Grill has a fantastic happy hour on their adorable rooftop, the rooftop at the Hotel Gansevoort in the meatpacking district is oh so sex and the city, and to round it out with a frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity! It's always a blast to discover new places, and meet new people, especially when you are allowing yourself to do it in your very own city! </div><div align="center"></div><div align="center">NYC! <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbBrjUMtdTECkXxQTbrTknOH9kDXo2r1bipqazRXN2eJ7dt3opRPFvBpkUKQmkXziaYkg5dabilt7__3AsGRgD7oF2S0RN2i0UvKF5sko8xNtzIKK50jfyww7VokXCyc5N-aObLbg6vrQa/s1600/1435670111_eb4cc1f9f3.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 287px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462641593034870530" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbBrjUMtdTECkXxQTbrTknOH9kDXo2r1bipqazRXN2eJ7dt3opRPFvBpkUKQmkXziaYkg5dabilt7__3AsGRgD7oF2S0RN2i0UvKF5sko8xNtzIKK50jfyww7VokXCyc5N-aObLbg6vrQa/s400/1435670111_eb4cc1f9f3.jpg" /></a><br /><div align="center">Minneapolis! <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghxPhQ4oVc1yAiAHrqdYc-Jdhnu6n7jZR6TXzVp4PEVQK4gvzqXqM71c9onIgJIJzyuUTUxNSocLrIK2Stj0z_ZsrO0Hz_kOTSfxPNQFGd_-46lxHGyipHhAXPDNc85CZdGzbJ2JOyKevJ/s1600/mpls_skyline_10001.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 116px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462640201808738482" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghxPhQ4oVc1yAiAHrqdYc-Jdhnu6n7jZR6TXzVp4PEVQK4gvzqXqM71c9onIgJIJzyuUTUxNSocLrIK2Stj0z_ZsrO0Hz_kOTSfxPNQFGd_-46lxHGyipHhAXPDNc85CZdGzbJ2JOyKevJ/s400/mpls_skyline_10001.jpg" /></a> </div></div>Nataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15752777258277561553noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326260841094213546.post-29231484421909858902010-04-19T19:15:00.002-05:002010-04-19T19:25:49.583-05:00Loving The Love Shop…One day when I was killing time, I wandered over to Esty and typed in “french”. Of course MANY wonderful sellers popped up (they always do…Esty sellers are amazingly creative!). But The Love Shop definitely caught my eye with its brightly colored prints boasting classic and/or inspirational quotes. These babies are perfect for a bedroom wall or hanging over your desk for inspiration.<br /><br />JJ, the designer and artist behind The Love Shop, describes her inspiration in the store’s profile: <em>“I’ve experienced some very challenging times over the past few years and throughout those times when things looked dark, I grabbed a hold of love and held on for dear life. I noticed that when I focused on love, I felt better. This was when the idea for the Love Shop was born. Now it’s all I want to do. Focus on love. Express love, give love”.<br /></em><br />Glad she did! Check out some prints for purchase from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/theloveshop">The Love Shop</a>.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf1iIjAfTzwWhH3f6cyxjfUyhHmBzcCoRAHc67O8y-ZNEU0BkDvdUYZ0mdK32hw_nrSii-gANtktpHDRSGJCiKHRyPgjwNiK_Fns4leOBGdm7C1kmkgj_rHBFlRXKUdz5Nk6I8Mbe8bUeJ/s1600/snaps+of+love+shop+copy.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 375px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462006980889130514" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf1iIjAfTzwWhH3f6cyxjfUyhHmBzcCoRAHc67O8y-ZNEU0BkDvdUYZ0mdK32hw_nrSii-gANtktpHDRSGJCiKHRyPgjwNiK_Fns4leOBGdm7C1kmkgj_rHBFlRXKUdz5Nk6I8Mbe8bUeJ/s400/snaps+of+love+shop+copy.jpg" /></a>Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16930884184332172165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326260841094213546.post-4944420591486842382010-04-13T23:52:00.006-05:002010-04-14T14:07:03.818-05:00Now Why Do You Suppose SHE Needs an Office?...…she doesn’t really work at a desk, does she?<br /><br />No matter. I love it. When Khloe Kardashian moved into her new house, she turned to LA interior designer <a href="http://www.jeffandrews-design.com/">Jeff Andrews</a> (there is some sort of Ryan Seacrest, we both have shows on E! connection there) to help her design her new digs. I was particularly drawn to her office with its sophisticated and old Hollywood glam vibe.<br /><br />I am loving the glitz of the mirrored desk. And if you look closely, the back of the display shelves are actually lined will mirrors as well. I love the way that the mirrors’ reflections play off the rich colored walls. The wall paint is a deep shade of gray/lavender (Benjamin Moore – Stone) and the ceiling is actually a lighter shade of lavender (Benjamin Moore – Angelika).<br /><br />According to Andrews, the guest chairs “are vintage chairs Khloe owned but didn’t love. Rather than be wasteful, I found two great fabrics, one with subtle sparkle and one solid, and reupholstered the chairs”.<br /><br />I think it’s the fabulous charcoal / purple sheers that filter light and really up the "glam factor" of this room. Most people probably need more light in their offices to actually see what they are working on. But as mentioned above, I don’t believe that she has the type of job that necessitates and office, so light limiting sheers work out great!<br /><br />VERY old Hollywood glam if you ask me!<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKOujd19LB7xi9S4433cjggPeyS8umL8eT9Jj8LigqU39vz_RJKFY8gWEfJgFDZQk5RDmFHs9UIEf3MIlKtjVSkkmWNeLfxtqRuBxMOvXWfaUmxgc0qM0wqFEIhJz0V4yXhY29sbMouDqY/s1600/2.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5459853866022283762" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKOujd19LB7xi9S4433cjggPeyS8umL8eT9Jj8LigqU39vz_RJKFY8gWEfJgFDZQk5RDmFHs9UIEf3MIlKtjVSkkmWNeLfxtqRuBxMOvXWfaUmxgc0qM0wqFEIhJz0V4yXhY29sbMouDqY/s400/2.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSIl6944MyKogG75L0wOkFN4_JFw_U8QcHE55KdqVyMloJHSI1PqY8p479jHQaPEomlIJcoMBspteYEvCdJMUjXfVb1WvbGqPQcopWXfHRco7yDUEnxIfzrFUIciLADmltpHArr5Lw9Ass/s1600/3.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5459854018645429490" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSIl6944MyKogG75L0wOkFN4_JFw_U8QcHE55KdqVyMloJHSI1PqY8p479jHQaPEomlIJcoMBspteYEvCdJMUjXfVb1WvbGqPQcopWXfHRco7yDUEnxIfzrFUIciLADmltpHArr5Lw9Ass/s400/3.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsSvcK7bfwsWljbuCq9SDQDp-moMB0Dia5g38U1l2s8c65AJTW6LA11zvVEI2KxJz3Wy2Hl12rMmoQPvgmdHWg4VfEH6YfxTOlRGGI3re91yEjG0WvbZGiJfD3GtpJ092MLKxdGzqqxnll/s1600/73886dbe28934fec_office1_b_1__preview.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5459854150420977106" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 335px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsSvcK7bfwsWljbuCq9SDQDp-moMB0Dia5g38U1l2s8c65AJTW6LA11zvVEI2KxJz3Wy2Hl12rMmoQPvgmdHWg4VfEH6YfxTOlRGGI3re91yEjG0WvbZGiJfD3GtpJ092MLKxdGzqqxnll/s400/73886dbe28934fec_office1_b_1__preview.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><p align="center"><span style="font-size:78%;">{images from <a href="http://www.casasugar.com/Exclusive-Sneak-Peek-Khloe-Kardashians-Home-Office-Get-Look-Tips-From-Interior-Designer-Jeff-Andrews-7947080">here</a>}</span></p><br /><p align="center"></p>Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16930884184332172165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326260841094213546.post-37359642959179037592010-04-11T21:39:00.005-05:002010-04-12T08:12:56.507-05:00Repurposing…<div align="center"><br />At the shop, I used to sell Lofco candles which are the most amazing smelling candles. They are a soy based candle that burns for over 100 hours in a hand-blown glass vessel. I always thought it was such a shame to throw away the beautiful glass after the candle was gone so I decided to try and reuse it as a vase. I chose my two favorite scents as test cases: Penthouse (Champagne scent infused with ginger, raspberry and pink grapefruit) and Powder Room (Duchess Peony combined with camellia with a hint of rain mist and cassis)…each candle in the line is smartly named after a different room the house.<br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrX69hVvNWX7AeHG_vEI7rfpuQibL1ETgwVfMcDQAYWJBqPXmTWrSfdahUEjYXverd5SYaGCA_a87e0dFYfNs4JMPunkmSButf5FVcM61kflcgxMD3LI0VedJYO-Lb2rCkSxPDxnFSwna1/s1600/vv.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 201px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5459075405349230898" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrX69hVvNWX7AeHG_vEI7rfpuQibL1ETgwVfMcDQAYWJBqPXmTWrSfdahUEjYXverd5SYaGCA_a87e0dFYfNs4JMPunkmSButf5FVcM61kflcgxMD3LI0VedJYO-Lb2rCkSxPDxnFSwna1/s400/vv.jpg" /></a><br /><div align="center"><br />I filled my sink with HOT water and Dawn and let the candles soak over night. It was surprisingly easy to dig the remaining candle wax from the glass as it was so soft from soaking. I hand washed them and let them soak again in cold water for a while before rewashing them and letting them dry. The candle is slightly oily so I wanted to make sure that I got all of the oily residue off the glass before putting flowers in it. I chose to use pink and orange hybrid roses cut short. I think that it turned out quite cute!<br /><br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLMbeq4BE4tZhgNou-L-nwrFlWuHdveV_62SHiIorb6oEaZlcQixTD1Rp-VU-_zRkBS7OaBVLYT3qQ9QFyqFJSW4Ghc1tSEhIzLbbZVb-y0dDYIPwBIfEW0VUXEYI-7MqcoEhrz-UyLYkT/s1600/snaps+copy.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 133px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5459075614538961618" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLMbeq4BE4tZhgNou-L-nwrFlWuHdveV_62SHiIorb6oEaZlcQixTD1Rp-VU-_zRkBS7OaBVLYT3qQ9QFyqFJSW4Ghc1tSEhIzLbbZVb-y0dDYIPwBIfEW0VUXEYI-7MqcoEhrz-UyLYkT/s400/snaps+copy.jpg" /> <p align="center"></a><span style="font-size:78%;">{snapshots of soaking, drying and arranging}</span><br /></p><p align="center"><br />voila!<br /><br /></p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxUm3JiDXb1YisbdEhBq8nMjMFRPt0ZLoUF0vGprfKSkE36FljRpQ46hD7QzH0SRkcY4oRXfyH7ZxzldKVJ6giuwHA2LhvzBKHs9Zn8-lduxqQlEGBE4hQtr6z4Q-zsRHm6x2TleejAFfz/s1600/P1010739.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5459075961188987218" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxUm3JiDXb1YisbdEhBq8nMjMFRPt0ZLoUF0vGprfKSkE36FljRpQ46hD7QzH0SRkcY4oRXfyH7ZxzldKVJ6giuwHA2LhvzBKHs9Zn8-lduxqQlEGBE4hQtr6z4Q-zsRHm6x2TleejAFfz/s400/P1010739.JPG" /></a>Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16930884184332172165noreply@blogger.com1
